Colloquially known as the “Highway to Nowhere”, The Franklin-Mulberry Expressway has divided a residential neighborhood in West Baltimore since its inception in 1968. Instituting a free flowing design scheme throughout this mile-long freeway, antiquated urban infrastructures are returned to the human networks they previously divided. Highlighting historic connections and providing new nodes, informative landscapes are woven within the urban blocks, utilizing the void cut by the highway through the development of a Community College. Predominantly a low-income working class city, the expansion of Baltimore’s undersized Community College will anchor the woven design scheme within both the physical and immaterial networks of West Baltimore; healing the wound that is the Highway to Nowhere.
